Shashin – A WordPress Plugin for Displaying Picasa Photos

My Picasa plugin for WordPress is now available. I’ve been working on it for months now and I’m pleased to have it in good enough shape for others to try out. Please keep in mind I’m the only one who’s used it so far, so if you encounter any problems, please let me know, and I’ll fix it. You can get it at my Shashin page, where you’ll also find detailed instructions.

I had intended to make it available exclusively at the WordPress.org plugins site, as that’s where it would reach the widest audience. But I filled in their “add a plugin” form almost a week ago and haven’t heard anything back yet, so at least for now I’m making it available here.

Well, I really like the coffee desk theme by Roam2Rome, but that person does not seem to care and has ignores my cries for help and has gone AWOL. Also the site has been down all day, of course today when I set out to find someone who will help me.

I see that you have fixed the notorious “Random Posts” errors area. I want to fix this part and modify some others.
I also want to add a side bar that includes ALL my pages, not just the first 4.
Can you help? Do I need to offer paid time to someone for this. I am up for anyone responding to this that knows what there doing with this theme.

Hi Eric – I’ve been meaning to write a post about the coffee desk theme. I think it’s a brilliant look, but for my site I spent many hours re-writing it from scratch. While the original code did pass XHTML and CSS validation, IMHO it had too many unneeded nested layers, and was just really difficult to work with. Rather than pulling my hair out trying to hack at it, it was less frustrating to just start over. I haven’t done a line by line comparison, but I achieved the same look as the original with about a third less code.

If you like I can send you a zip file of my re-write. But note that my header is completely different – I have some personal photos there instead of the keyboard, mouse, and coffee cup. I’ve been meaning to do a version of the header that mimics the original design, so I could send the whole thing back to the original author, but I’ve been incredibly busy recently.

Let me know if you want my code – it’ll also be no problem to help you with the sidebar. The only hitch is the header – I might have some time next week to look into making a version that matches the original look.
